Admission requirements

Bachelor of Arts in Music - Early Music
  • As a rule, between 16 and 25 years old at the beginning of studies
  • Matura, Abitur, Baccalauréat, High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Above-average musical talent, aptitude and sufficient preparatory training and experience in the major subject, as well as a solid foundation in general musical knowledge
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language (the official teaching language at the SCB)
  • Successful entrance exam

Master of Arts in Musical Performance - Early Music
  • Matura, Abitur, Baccalauréat, High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent
  • Above-average musical talent, aptitude and sufficient preparatory training and experience in the major subject, as well as a solid foundation in general musical knowledge
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language (the official teaching language at the SCB)
  • Successful entrance exam
For students who have completed the BA at the SCB:
  • BA with a minimum of 5.0 in the major subject and a recommendation from the BA Examination Commission (see BA-Examination regulations).
Master of Arts in Specialized Musical Performance - Early Music
  • Matura, Abitur, Baccalauréat, High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent
  • Above-average musical talent, aptitude and sufficient preparatory training and experience in the major subject, as well as a solid foundation in general musical knowledge            
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language (the official teaching language at the SCB)
  • Successful entrance exam
For students who have completed the BA at the SCB:
  • BA (Specialization R-R):  6.0 in the major subject, or 5.5 (Specialization M-R) and a recommendation from the Examination Commission (see the Exam  Regulations).
Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy  - Early Music
  • Matura, Abitur, Baccalauréat, High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent
  • Above-average musical talent, aptitude and sufficient preparatory training and experience in the major subject, as well as a solid foundation in general musical knowledge
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language (the official teaching language at the SCB)
  • Successful entrance exam
  • Available space in the program of your choice
          For students who have completed the BA at the SCB:
  • BA with a minimum of 4.8 in the major subject and a recommendation from the Examination Commission (see the Exam  Regulations).

Complementary studies
  • Completed course of study (Diploma, MA) at an institution of higher education in music
  • Excellent musical talent, affinity to the field, sufficient development and experience in the major subject 
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language (the official teaching language at the SCB)
  • Successful entrance exam
  • Available space in the program of your choice
Recognition of previous studies
Exceptions to the above-mentioned requirements, as well as recognition of previous studies (and possible adjustments to the normal requirements) will be determined by the direction of the SCB, on the basis of the results of the entrance exam.
